PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: October 23, 2026 · SafePass extension for Chrome and Brave
IN SHORT
• Your vault (passwords, notes, cards, addresses, folders, settings, profile photo and password generator history) is end-to-end encrypted on your device (AES-256-GCM) before it goes online. Nobody else can read it: not Google, not the developer of SafePass.
• Your master password is never sent or stored.
• SafePass has no ads, analytics or trackers, and it doesn’t sell or share your data.
WHAT IS SENT, AND TO WHOM
• Firebase (Google), the sync service the SafePass app also uses: your e-mail, a sign-in password derived from the master password (it can’t decrypt anything) and your already encrypted vault. Firebase also sees how many items you have, when it last changed and when you connect. If you turn on two-step verification in the app, Firebase keeps your authenticator app’s secret key to check the codes.
• The websites themselves, only if website logos are on: the browser asks each site of your accounts for its icon directly (for example amazon.com) and, if you allowed access to websites, reads its home page to find the best logo, as the app does. Only the logo’s address is kept (7 days), never the page content. No service in between. You can turn it off in Settings → Appearance.
• Nothing else. There are no other servers.
WHAT IS KEPT IN THIS BROWSER
• While unlocked: your vault key and Firebase sign-in, only in the browser’s session memory. They are wiped when it locks or the browser closes, and web pages can’t read them.
• Settings: your preferences, the public Firebase API key and the project ID.
• Remember e-mail (optional): only e-mail addresses, never passwords.
• Remember master password (optional, off by default): it doesn’t keep the master password but the Firebase sign-in and the vault key, encrypted with a key the browser won’t let anyone export. It is wiped when you turn it off or sign out. Anyone using this computer with your account could open the vault: turn it on only on your own computer.
• Generator history: the last 50 passwords you copied or used from the generator (and those it offered in sign-up forms), encrypted with your vault key. They can only be seen while SafePass is unlocked, sync inside your encrypted vault and are deleted when you sign out or with “Clear history”.
ON WEB PAGES (OPTIONAL)
Only if you press Allow on all sites in Settings → Notifications:
• SafePass looks for sign-in, card and address forms to show its icon, fill them and offer to save.
• The page never receives your passwords or card numbers: only the names shown in the menu. Filling happens only on that account’s site and after you click.
• When you sign in or pay, what you typed is kept only in memory for up to 3 minutes to ask whether to save it. “Not now” wipes it. Card security codes are never saved.
• The content of the pages you visit is never sent anywhere.
CLIPBOARD
When you copy a password, SafePass clears it from the clipboard after the time you choose, and only if it is still what it copied.
EXTENSION PERMISSIONS
• storage: keep your settings and the session.
• activeTab and scripting: fill the open page when you ask.
• alarms and idle: lock after inactivity or when the computer locks, and sync.
• offscreen, clipboardWrite and clipboardRead: copy passwords and clear them from the clipboard later.
• Firebase access (Google’s identitytoolkit, securetoken, firestore): sync your encrypted vault.
• Access to websites (optional, you grant it): icons and notices inside pages.
DELETING YOUR DATA
• Sign out (Account → Sign out) wipes the session, the current e-mail and the remembered password from this browser.
• Removing the extension deletes everything it kept in the browser.
• Your account and your cloud vault are deleted from the SafePass app.
• If you forget the master password, nobody can recover your data: that is what end-to-end encryption means.
