NBBJ Firm-wide Model Studio Team: How Can Physical Objects Influence People in a Virtual World? Models Make a Difference

The NBBJ Firm-wide Model Studio Team adapted creatively to the Pandemic world while working from home and in our respective Model Studios this past year.  Here are three distinct efforts realized during this time.

PPE Production: In Model Studios across our firm, we initiated a coordinated Global Face-Shield fabrication effort to support local Health Care workers & other First Responders.

Three identical models in three Locations: One of the significant impacts of the pandemic was the elimination of face-to-face interactions, a huge obstacle to overcome when we usually share our design visions via physical models. The L.A. Studio was challenged to build three identical models requiring timely shipment to Shanghai, Hong Kong and New York - all arriving safely and in time for all three parties in a real-time virtual interview.

NBBJ Annual Awards: The NBBJ Model Studios have embraced a labor of love in the annual design & fabrication of our in-house Awards for many years. This last year was a bit different for all of us. Our ideation was influenced by the Pandemic and we responded to this “shift” with a few adaptations and a twist of innovation. Together, these three examples tell one story of resilience, adaptation, and creativity by showing the difference we can make through our physical craft in a virtual world. Models have made a difference!
