(This piece is from 2005 when I was graduating from high school, moving to a new city and beginning to branch out into the wider world. It's a time capsule into a past version of me.)
And thus begins our journeys
Separate yet together
Already we are all becoming exactly what life intended for us to become
Sometimes scared, we hide behind the shadows...
sometimes for the better, sometimes not
There are those that look for comfort in a bottle
Others who claim ultimate independence, but look for comfort in the opposite sex
And then there are those who push themselves, and challenge themselves everyday to become better, greater, more intelligent
And the one thing that all of these people have in common is that when the sun sets, they have nothing to look at but their own reflections,
no matter how demented or beautiful they are
No one will ever truly know what lies beneath their surfaces
And then one day they will stand at their windows, after a long weekend of reflection and realize that they haven't really looked at the sky in ages
They haven't noticed the amazing shapes the clouds make,
or the burning sensations of the sun rises
All this because they have been so consumed with themselves and their bad habits to see the beauty and the glory that they've been so blinded against
I promise you though, that one day all of these people, in their darkest hours will reflect upon their lives... and their only wish would have been to not take anything for granted...
Never take anything for granted.
