How to Use BE2Works Software to Repair Notebook Batteries

BE2Works is a software that allows you to read and write the EEPROM data of notebook batteries. EEPROM stands for Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory, and it stores information such as the battery capacity, cycle count, calibration data, and serial number. By modifying the EEPROM data, you can reset the battery parameters, clear the error codes, or change the battery information.

In this article, we will show you how to use BE2Works software to repair notebook batteries. You will need the following items:

A Windows computer with BE2Works software installed. You can download the full version or the demo version from here. The full version costs $179 and supports more features and battery models than the demo version.

A USB to SMBus adapter that connects your computer to the battery. BE2Works supports USB to GPIO, CP2112, and EV2300/EV2400 adapters. You can buy them from here or build them yourself.

A notebook battery that you want to repair. Make sure it is compatible with BE2Works software. You can check the supported battery models and EEPROM chips from here.

Once you have everything ready, follow these steps:

Connect the USB to SMBus adapter to your computer and to the battery. Make sure the adapter is recognized by your computer and has the correct driver installed.

Open BE2Works software and select the adapter type from the menu. Then click on Connect button.

The software will scan the battery and display its information on the screen. You can see the battery model, serial number, capacity, voltage, current, temperature, cycle count, error codes, and other parameters.

If you want to modify the EEPROM data, click on Edit button. A new window will open where you can change any value you want. Be careful not to change anything that you are not sure about, as it may damage your battery or make it unusable.

After you make the changes, click on Write button to save them to the battery. The software will ask you to confirm your action and warn you about the risks involved.

If you want to reset the battery parameters, click on Reset button. The software will ask you to select a reset mode from Full Reset, Partial Reset, or Clear Error Codes. Full Reset will erase all the EEPROM data and restore it to factory defaults. Partial Reset will only erase some of the EEPROM data and keep some of them unchanged. Clear Error Codes will only clear the error codes that prevent the battery from charging or discharging.

After you select a reset mode, click on OK button to proceed. The software will ask you to confirm your action and warn you about the risks involved.

When the writing or resetting process is done, disconnect the battery from the adapter and reconnect it again. The software will scan the battery again and show you the updated information.

You can also use BE2Works software to test your battery performance by clicking on Test button. The software will ask you to select a test mode from Charge Test, Discharge Test, or Cycle Test. Charge Test will charge your battery to its full capacity and measure its voltage and current. Discharge Test will discharge your battery to its empty level and measure its voltage and current. Cycle Test will repeat both charge and discharge tests several times and measure its capacity and cycle count.

After you select a test mode, click on OK button to start. The software will show you a graph of your battery performance during the test. You can stop the test anytime by clicking on Stop button.
