Brief Profile

Sabyasachi Mukhopadhyay is a Ph.D. Research Scholar at the Centre For Computational And Data Sciences, IIT Kharagpur. The IIT KHARAGPUR AI4ICPS I HUB FOUNDATION, under the aegis of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, awarded him the prestigious CHANAKYA PhD Fellowship during his PhD. He is the Teaching Assistant, formerly Skills Development Manager (SDM), at the IIT Kharagpur AI4ICPS I Hub Foundation. He is an Assistant Professor of Business Analytics in Postgraduate Management Studies at BIMS Kolkata, affiliated with MAKAUT (On Leave). He served as a University Faculty of Business Analytics and Statistics at the School of Management Science, MAKAUT (Govt. of WB), WB, India. He was also the University Course Coordinator for the BBA and MBA in Business Analytics at MAKAUT. Mukhopadhyay is involved in teaching IoT at the University of Calcutta as a Visiting faculty member. He is also the Visiting Faculty of Analytics in Postgraduate Management Studies at Symbiosis Center for Information Technology (SCIT), affiliated with SIU Pune (a private deemed university). Mukhopadhyay is also a Visiting faculty member in Entrepreneurship at Techno India University and data science at WEBEL Fujisoft Vara Centre of Excellence, respectively. Meanwhile, Mukhopadhyay was a Project Scientist at Nanoscope Technologies for a brief period. Mukhopadhyay served as Chief Research Officer at Rootalpha Ventures Private Limited. Mukhopadhyay did his B.Tech. in ECE from CEM Kolaghat (affiliated with MAKAUT) in 2012. Mukhopadhyay received an MS in Physical Sciences from IISER Kolkata with the IISERK fellowship  and was the ‘Topper’ of the 2015 batch. He is the ‘Course Curriculum Developer’, ‘Paper Setter’, ‘Examiner’, and ‘Moderator’ of MAKAUT and SCIT Pune. He is also a ‘Google Developer Expert in Machine Learning’ and ‘Intel Software Innovator’. He was the ‘Co-Founder’ and ‘Chief Research Officer’ of Twelit MedTech Pvt. Ltd. and is currently involved in startup mentoring activities. For instance, he is the ‘Honorary Advisor’ (Technical Development) of Solaire Initiative Pvt. Ltd. He was featured in Facebook’s special coverage, ‘The Limitless’ as one of India’s leading innovators and entrepreneurs of 2018. 

He has more than 55 publications, which include patents, books, journals, and proceedings. Mukhopadhyay is a Reviewer for many prestigious research journals and conferences. His findings on AI-based retinal disease detection and AI-based early-stage cancer detection have been highlighted in all leading newspapers like ‘The Hindu’, ‘The Economic Times’, ‘The Indian Express’, ‘Business Standard’, ‘Daily World’ as well as on television channels like ‘Zee News’, ‘Odisha Tv’, ‘NewsX’, ‘News World India’. His research success has also been featured in leading national and international tech magazines like ‘eHealth’, ‘Analytics India Magazine’, ‘The Better India’, ‘BioSpectrum’. He received several international awards, which include ‘Best Research Paper Award’, the prestigious ‘SPIE Photonics Education Scholarship-2014’ (only 19 students from Asia, 144 students around the world received that), ‘Most Inspiring Facebook Developer Circle Lead’ (twice), 'Best Supportive Lead', 'Master "Hacker" Award', 'Alumni Award 2020 By IISER Kolkata' and so on. During his Ph.D., he was awarded the ACM India Anveshan Setu Fellowship in 2023 and 2024. He also received several travel grants from SPIE, and IISER to present research at international conferences. Mukhopadhyay was onboarded as a nominated ‘Board Member and External Expert of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC)’ at IEM Kolkata, Techno India Main Salt Lake, IISER Kolkata and Meghnad Saha Institute Of Technology (MSIT). Mukhopadhyay was also onboarded as an External Expert of the National Innovation & Startup Policy (NISP) Expert Committee at IISER Kolkata and Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College. 

Mukhopadhyay delivered invited talks and served as a panelist and judge at hackathons at leading IITs, IISERs, NITs, IIEST Shibpur, and many leading state and central universities in India. He also delivered invited talks at foreign universities like 'University of Global Village, Bangladesh', 'Université Kofi Annan de Guinée, Guinea', 'Gyalpozhing College of Information Technology, Bhutan' and so on. Sabyasachi’s research on AI-based early-stage cancer detection has been included in the current affair syllabus of India’s top Govt. official competitive exams like UPSC, IAS, IBPS, Banking, etc. Mukhopadhyay was also invited to deliver talks in ‘ATAL AICTE Faculty Development Programme’ of IEM Kolkata, CEM Kolaghat, NIT Mizoram, NIT Durgapur, and ‘Refreshers Courses for Faculties’ at Calcutta University, and Narula Institute Of Technology. He delivered an invited talk in a webinar organized by the IT Department of MAKAUT (Govt. of WB) on the eve of the Student Induction Programme for new B. Tech., M. Tech., MCA., and BSc. batches. He was also invited as a ‘Judge’ of the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2018 at the Heritage Institute of Technology in Kolkata. He was the Judge of the ‘Hult Prize’ at Netaji Subhas Engineering College, NIT Durgapur and Calcutta University. 

He delivered TEDx talks twice, at TEDxBalajiITS and TEDx HITKolkata.His TEDx talk at TEDxBalajiITS was featured on news channels including ETV Telangana, Chappudu TV, and newspapers like Velugu, Andhra Jyothy, Sakshi, and so on. He wrote technical articles for the editorial of the leading Bengali daily, Anandabazar Patrika. He also wrote an invited article on AI applications for COVID-19 detection written in Bengali and published in Bigyan Katha (Page No. 16), a publication by Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous organization of DST, Govt. of India. Mukhopadhyay received an honorary mention on the government's official site, The Embassy of India to Switzerland, The Holy See, & Liechtenstein, for his research.
