Teaching ASL Philosophy

We live in an English world but American Sign Language is one of unique of the foreign language. One must Immerse themselves Into the tapestry of the Deaf world: culture, community, history, and Issue

I take the opportunity to establish connections with my students.  they might feel nervous, shy or uncertain.  There is an Importance in creating a comfortable environment and employing the affective filter that enables them to be comfortable.

I inquire about their experiences, opinions and perspectives towards the Deaf community and once we discuss their overall Insights. After the discussion will lead students In learning that build comprehension, experiences and skills which will motivate them to Interact with the Deaf world. ASL students want to learn, explore and grow.  We come together and journey to the Deaf world and let the hearing and Deaf communities develop[ the collaboration.

How Grading Works

I know that getting good grades can be sometimes be stressful.  To reduce that stress can Improve the chance of getting your best grades,  allow yourself the time and space you need to do your best work.  Dont procrastinate .  If you pass the due date, I am allowing you to submit within a week later from the due date.

Netiquette

We are no longer in the classroom, so we are in an online course which means it becomes a different approach of our communication. However, when we have a need for communication that is private, whether personal, interpersonal, or professional, we will use individual email or telephone. Our primary means of communication is written. The written language has many advantages: more opportunity for reasoned thought, more ability to go in‐depth, and more time to think through an issue before posting a comment. Still, written communication also has certain disadvantages, such a lack of the face‐to‐face signaling that occurs through body language, intonation, pausing, facial expressions, and gestures. As a result, please be aware of the possibility of miscommunication and compose your comments in a positive, supportive, and constructive manner. The key word is respect and patience.
