Welcome to Riverside's Student Math Association! Here at the SMA, we offer opportunities for tutoring and learning. As a club, we do fun activities that are not just math-related.
Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to Riverside’s Student Math Association. We strive to help others learn and understand math from a logical and creative perspective, not just academic. We offer learning and tutoring opportunities at this club. Outside of club meetings, we participate in Riverside's community events and have previously attended the club kick-off and the annual Trunk or Treat.
Anyone in any grade is welcome to join anytime during the school year. Being a tutor, tutee, or officer is not required. To join the SMA this year, you only need to fulfill the requirement of attending at least three meetings if you are in grades 9-12 (the interest meeting and end-of-year celebration can count towards this requirement) and completing the official member form. Only official members will be inducted as a part of the Student Math Association at Riverside. Visit the "Meetings" and "Important Links" pages above for more information.
Becoming a tutor or a tutee is simple! Just complete the Tutor/Tutee Application form linked in the "Important Links" page above. If you are nominated by a teacher or staff member, we will reach out to you with more steps. Tutors can receive volunteer hours for the amount of time they spend preparing lesson material and tutoring.
If you are no longer interested in being a tutor or a tutee, you can always email us. However, even if you are a tutor or a tutee, you must attend at least three meetings this school year to be considered an official member. Officer positions are a year-long commitment.
Our meeting dates for the 2025-2026 school year haven't been set yet! These dates will be set at the beginning of the new school year but may change due to unforeseen circumstances. We hope to see you there!
By joining the SMA, you can get volunteer hours or help from these volunteer tutors! Math is essential for any career. You can practice your quick math skills, apply for leadership positions, and increase your collaboration and critical thinking ability by joining the SMA. This year, we are offering even more tutoring opportunities at RVHS, BEMS, and Newton Lee Elementary School! You can earn volunteer hours by signing up to be a part of our tutoring program.
Anyone in elementary, middle or high school is welcome to join. Students in grades k to 12 can apply to be a tutee (student being tutored), and anyone in grades 8 to 12 can be a tutor (the student who tutors). Only high school members are invited to be in our club yearbook picture and may apply for officer positions if available. Thank you for your interest!
