Call for Proposals

The Rutgers University Musicological Society (RUMS) invites submissions for its fifth annual Graduate Student Conference on February 24th, 2019. The submission deadline is December 9th, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

RUMS welcomes proposals for paper presentations, lecture-recitals, or interactive sessions from current graduate students whose research engages music. Presentations will be 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of discussion. Proposals should be no more than 250 words in length. One supplementary example, such as a recital program, chart, graph, or table, may be included in the proposal.

Please include your proposal in the body of an email along with your name, telephone number, and institutional affiliation. For the subject heading, please write “RUMS Conference Submission.” To ensure impartiality, we ask that you also attach your proposal as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file without your name, institutional affiliation, or any other personal identifiers. Label your attachment with the title only.

Supplemental presentation materials: We will provide a projector-compatible laptop, speaker system, and piano. If your presentation requires any additional audio/visual equipment, please include that information in the body of your email.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Sunday, December 9th, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Notification of acceptance will be sent no later than Sunday, January 13, 2019.

Directions & Parking

The conference will take place in Richard H. Shindell Choral Hall, Mortensen Hall, 85 George Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. Parking is available in the Douglass Parking Deck. To get from the parking deck to Mortensen Hall, follow these directions:

1. Walk out of the parking deck toward George Street

2. Turn right and follow the path that runs parallel to George Street

3. Turn left onto the large concrete bridge that crosses over George Street

4. Walk to the right of the buildings in front of you (Hickman Hall) and continue straight until you reach the Bettenbender Plaza traffic circle

5. Walk around the traffic circle; Mortensen Hall will be directly in front of you
