Bios:


Alek Ferlazzo: Alexander Ferlazzo is currently is a first year MA student in Music Theory at Rutgers University. He received his BM in bassoon performance from the Oberlin Conservatory in 2016. At the 40th annual meeting of the Society for Music Theory in 2017, Alek co-present with David Heetderks (Oberlin Conservatory) the paper “Textual Norms and Deformations in Beatles’ Bridge Sections 1963-67”. Alek’s main musical interests are Western popular music and American twelve-tone music.


David Floyd: David Floyd is a part-time lecturer in music theory with Mason Gross School of the Arts, and a first year MA student in music theory, with an interest in pursuing a career in music librarianship. He also holds a BM from the University of Tennessee in clarinet performance and music theory. Serving on the 2017-18 RUMS conference committee, he chaired the first session of the fourth annual conference.


Jasmine Henry: Jasmine Henry is a second-year Musicology Ph.D. student at Rutgers University. Prior to attending Rutgers, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sound Engineering and a Master’s degree in Music Business from William Paterson University. Her current research focuses on Do-It-Yourself music-making in hip-hop and R&B music. As an adjunct professor, she teaches music business, music technology, and music appreciation courses at several institutions. Jasmine currently serves as the Vice-President of RUMS and chaired the RUMS 2018 Graduate Student Conference.


Rachel Horner: Rachel Horner is a first-year MA student in musicology at Mason Gross, where she also earned a BM with a dual concentration in music education (voice) and Spanish. Her thesis involves an ethnographic study of the Fallas festival in Valencia, Spain. Rachel is an active member of RUMS, having served as the event manager for the annual graduate student conference both as a fourth-year undergraduate student (spring 2017) and this year as a conference committee member (2017–2018).


Blake Ritchie: Blake is second-year PhD student in music theory at Rutgers University. She received her MM in music theory from the University of Oklahoma, and her BM in music education from Stephen F. Austin State University. She is a part-time lecturer in music theory at Rutgers University, and previously taught aural skills at the University of Oklahoma. She currently serves as Secretary for RUMS and as the Student Representative for the Music Theory Society of the Mid-Atlantic. Her research interests include feminist theory, narrative theory, and the works of Russian modernist composers.
