RURAL DESIGN STUDIO - Rural Design Studio

The Rural Design Studio at Gdansk Tech Faculty of Architecture by Department of Environmental Design explores the future of rural environments through site-based learning and hands-on design proposals. Rooted in the values of sustainability and community resilience, students investigate how tradition and modern architecture can harmonize in shaping better futures for rural settlements.

Every summer, before work in the Design Studio begins, students undertake field practice in their chosen villages, where they conduct photo surveys, building fabric assessments, and interviews with local inhabitants. This immersive research provides a strong foundation for developing context-aware and community-informed design proposals.

Architectural Projects Practice Atelier AppA358 is an evolving academic model that prepares students for professional practice. By developing design thinking grounded in research, dialogue, and responsibility, it aims to gradually transition architectural education from purely academic exercises toward real-world collaboration and external design commissions.
