On the 28th-29th January, we invite artists to take part in a 2-day bootcamp at LCB Depot to learn live coding and create a new exhibition from scratch
Cutoff for applications is the 16th Dec 2023.
Live coding is a method of creating and performing artworks by writing simple software.
Live Coding is often associated with the Algorave scene that started in Sheffield where artists perform with code they are writing in front of an audience.
To learn more about the community of artists involved in Live Code check the TOPLAP site or enjoy a performance by Antonio Roberts and Alex Mclean HERE :)
Participants will learn the basics of live-coding music and visuals in the Chrome browser.
The bootcamp will introduce participants to basic languages and coding used for making art and performances. No experience of coding is required but some clear ideas of how you might use computer generated sounds or imagery in your practice will be beneficial.
Participants MUST be available to attend in person to be eligable to take part. The dates are:
Sat 28th Jan, 11:30 - 16:30
Sun 29th Jan, 11:30 - 16:30
Over the weekend participants will work with tutor Antonio Roberts to create one or more simple artworks that will be featured in a showcase exhibition in LCB Lightbox Gallery that will run Monday January 30th - Friday February 3rd 2023.
We are particularly interested in receiving applications from artists who have encountered boundaries in developing their practice.
Fees:
The course has been kindly subsidised by Arts Council England so is completely free. However, space is limited.
Artists who complete the bootcamp will be invited to show their work in the Lightbox Gallery as part of a short group show and be paid a flat fee of £200 inclusive for showing work.
Artists who complete the bootcamp will also be invited to take part in the evaluation of the project. This will involve a short interview and agreement to contribute your words and images of your work to a short zine about the exhibition that will be free. Those who contribute to the zine will be paid a further fee of £100 inclusive.
In both instances you must be responsible for declaring and paying your own tax on fees paid.
Runtime holds Public Liability Insurance that will cover the project.
The opportunity is aimed at artists local to the Midlands, for those outside Leiecster, some support with travel may be available, please email to discuss.
