Pick's Theorem and Farey Fractions

Abstract: I will talk about two seemingly unrelated topics, one from elementary geometry (Pick's Theorem), and one from elementary number theory (the Farey sequences), that both involve finding deep relations from simple patterns.  Despite their apparent simplicity, these topics are related to a number of other results in geometry, algebra, and number theory.  No background is required for this talk, aside from an enjoyment of patterns!
