Dr. Wilkinson is an Assistant Professor in the Human Systems Engineering program at Arizona State University, Director of the Responsible Technology and Society Lab, and an affiliate of the Center for Human, Artificial Intelligence, and Robot Teaming (CHART). Her work is driven by a deep commitment to building safe and responsible technology by advancing understanding of the harms perpetuated by AI systems. She actively conducts foundational research to design protective mechanisms through both design and governance.
Her research bridges Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to surface opportunities for fairness, transparency, and justice in digital environments. Dr. Wilkinson previously served as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the FATE (Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Ethics in AI) group at Microsoft Research, and was recognized as one of the Top 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics in 2023.
Originally from St. Kitts and Nevis, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of the Virgin Islands, followed by a master's degree in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Human-Centered Computing from Clemson University, where she was advised by Dr. Bart Knijnenburg.
