This site provides information for CSCI students and students in CSCI courses in the Spring 2021 (S21) semester.
[Tuesday, May 11, 5:00pm] To all students in computer science courses whose final exams and/or final assignments have been canceled because of the system outage:
As you know, due to the attack on the campus network and the subsequent outage, exams were canceled from late Friday morning through the end of the final exam period. We understand that this has been extremely worrisome and frustrating for you, especially after a challenging year where you've worked very hard and persevered. I'm sure all of you would like to know how grading policies are being revised and how we will close out the semester.
To that end, each instructor, working in consultation with me and other instructors in the department, has established their own criteria based on the particular needs of their course. All are different, but each is guided by two principles: (1) final course grades cannot go down from where they would have been based on the original grading scheme before the final exam and/or final assignments; and (2) final course grades must balance optimism about the final exam/assignments and a realistic view of how students have already performed in their work ahead of the final exam period. Instructors are now releasing these policies for their individual courses. Please direct questions about the criteria or the course in general using the contact information listed below for each course. Please feel free to contact me at rpi.cs.head@gmail.com for more general questions or if you cannot resolve issues with your instructors. You may also contact the School of Science Hub (sciencehub.rpi@gmail.com) to help address general issues.
Thank you all for your patience. We are very proud of you and your dedication and achievements. Best wishes for success to all graduating seniors and MS students. For other students, we very much look forward to seeing you in person in the future.
Prof. Chuck Stewart, Department Head
