Dare to Dream is the first book I used to experiment with self-publishing: I went through some of my old writings and found a number of short stories, essays and a few poems. As I went through them I noticed that many of them had similar themes, or feelings. I decided to separate them into three parts for the book. Each part is a different theme with the stories all relating to that theme. The first two parts begin with a poem.
Part I, I WANNA.
The Poem, “I Wanna” describes how we all have dreams, but for one reason or another we are prevented from achieving those dreams. However those dreams continue to remain in our own perceived future to hopefully, eventually be realized.
ALONE, the first story in I Wanna, is also a trilogy showing three successive events in Cynthia’s life as she searches for her dream only to find it results in being far different than what she could have imagined.
1999 contains two stories from the imagination of a man waiting in an airline terminal for his flight. As he observes the people around him he kills time with what he calls "mind adventures", building a story around the passengers he doesn’t know.
WHITE DRESS is actually an essay taken from a short snippet of time in my life.
Each story has great expectations, but reality has a way of changing plans.
Part II, I NEVER KNEW.
This poem is about lost dreams, or dreams for which we were never aware.
THE MEMORY is a dream of the past with an outcome never intended, nor wanted. However, it shows us that not all nightmares are ones we want to wake up from.
THE RED DEVIL’S FOOD CAKE is a story of very real dreams that never happened. But if they did, would you want them to happen again?
JUST A SHORT STORY: Ah, who hasn’t imagined they could write the best short story ever . . . if they were only given the breaks?
NOT THE SUN: how other people’s dreams, whether real or fantasy can effect everyone’s lives.
Part III, THE ANGEL
How many times have we wanted to be visited by an angel? However, if we were, would we like their message?
The Angel is only one story written in free verse form. I used it to sum up the idea of our dreams; whether our dreams were unattainable, fulfilled, or expected. The Angel shows us dreams should not be questioned, but welcomed in whatever form they come.
The cover picture is Highway 375 in Nevada, better known as the Extraterrestrial Highway.
The spot of the photo was south of Rachael Nevada, just outside the gate to Area 51, also known as “Dreamland”.
I thought that fitting.
