Welcome to the Hoy Research Group! 

We are a physical chemistry research group at Rowan University that employs and develops quantum chemistry methods to study electronic transport processes, molecular electronic devices, electrocatalysis, and organic materials/reactions.

Group News

3/2024: Dr. Hoy presented our group's research at the National Meetings for both the American Physical Society and the American Chemical Society this month.

12/2023: Our group has been awarded a grant from the Eppley Foundation for the project: "Designing Novel Drugs by Leveraging Prototropic Tautomerism."

11/2023: Anna Boddy successfully defended her thesis and will be our first Master's graduate! Congratulations Anna!

12/2021: Our group has been awarded an Undergraduate New Investigator Grant from the ACS-PRF to study "All-Carbon Electronics: Electron Correlation and Reversed Electrical Conductance Decay in Heavy Oil Derivatives."

5/2021: Our group has received a startup allocation from the NSF XSEDE program to study "Reversed Electrical Conductance Decay in Single-Molecule Organic Electronics"


4/2021: A preprint about our group's new charge transport method, NEGF-MCPDFT, developed in collaboration with Dr. Andrew Sand of Butler University is now available on arXiv!

4/2021: Dr. Hoy and Shajib Jabadal presented their research at the Spring 2021 National ACS Virtual Meeting.


3/2021: Our new software package for studying charge transport in molecular junctions, Rowan University Quantum Transport (RUQT), is now available on Github!

2/2021: Our paper by former students Don Bones and Justin Malme, Examining conductance values in the biphenyl molecular switch with reduced density matrices, has been published in the International Journal of Quantum Chemistry!


1/2021: Our group has been awarded a computational grant for 100,000 SUs on the Rutgers supercomputer Caliburn!

2020

5/2020: Congratulations to the first Hoy Research Group graduates: Don X. Bones,  Justin T. Malme, Raul Mendez, and Eric Nesbihal! Don will be PhD student at the University of Maine in the Fall, and at the same time, Justin will be starting his PhD at the University of Urbana-Champaign. Raul Mendez has accepted a position at IBX, and Eric Neshibal has taken a programming job in private industry. Congratulations everyone!
