Our Varsity squad will train at 5:30 P.M. on the stadium field. Each varsity training session will consist of the 22 Varsity-rostered players, plus 8 extra training players from the JV team, to form a daily training squad of 30 players. All lower teams train at 3:15 immediately after school ends.
In order to mitigate training load & ensure a better experience for more players, we are extending all lower team rosters to a minimum capacity of 24 and a maximum capacity of 27. All players on rostered to a team will be allowed to attend all of their team's training sessions. Before each match day, the head coach will select 22 players to contest the match. This list will change every match day, ensuring that no player is excluded two match days in a row, or off-and-on every other match day. This policy will create a better training environment, and reduce burn-out and fatigue due to the high congestion of matches.
Middle schoolers are allowed to attend try-outs, but cannot participate in high school matches unless the player is selected to be a full-time member of the Varsity or Junior Varsity teams. Middle school players may be selected to be part-time "training players" on the Junior Varsity, B-Squad or First Years teams. These training players may attend training sessions while continuing to participate in the RAMS boys' soccer program. Not every middle school player who attends try-outs will be selected as a full-time or part-time player.
Firstly, we want to emphasize that we go through rounds and rounds of careful consideration to ensure that every student-athlete is placed in an environment where they can grow, develop, and enjoy high school soccer to the fullest possible extent.
Everyone wants to be on the highest team possible. Everyone wants the best experience possible. These two things are true, and they usually cannot happen at the same time. If we have a freshman who wants to be on Varsity, but we feel that putting him on Varsity would not allow him to grow as much as he would on another team, we will place him on an alternative team.
If a family isn't happy with their student-athlete's team placement, we completely understand. In an effort to be as transparent as possible, coach Vigil is willing to answer any questions or concerns that families may have. We ask that these questions & concerns come from the student-athlete themself, and that families hold their questions or comments for a 24-hour period following the final day of tryouts.
Families can reach coach Vigil through email at josephvigilm@gmail.com, or through text at (612) 400-4442.
Thank you.
Unfortunately, due to the large number of student-athletes interested in high school boys' soccer at RAHS, we must cut a certain amount of student-athletes at the end of the tryout process. This isn't a decision we take lightly, as we understand the emotional reprecussions that commonly follow.
Coach Vigil will personally notify every student-athlete that has been cut from the program on the final day of tryouts, and allow the player to choose if a discussion will be had or not.
Student-athletes who are not placed on an RBS team are encouraged to stay with the program and become student-managers, match-day assistants, or supporters.
