Craving a culinary adventure? We were too! So, we embarked on a quest for Guy Fieri-level deliciousness, diving headfirst into the world of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. While we didn't hit the original location (bucket list item!), we did snag a taste of their other restaurant – and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Get ready for some serious flavor bombs.
We kicked things off with the classics: chips and salsa. Okay, the chip portion was a tad on the smaller side (pro-tip: don't be shy, ask for more!), but the salsa? Forget about it! Chunky, bursting with fresh flavor – exactly what you crave. The corn esquites wasn't quite my personal favorite (I'm picky!), but it was still seriously good – like, perfect-for-dipping-your-chips-into good. Think creamy, cheesy, with a hint of spice.
Appetizers demolished (and thoroughly enjoyed!), it was time for the main event: the tacos! Sarah, ever the seafood lover, went for the Shrimp Taco and the legendary Birria Barbacoa. A word to the wise: the consommé is extra, so she opted out this time. Big mistake. HUGE. She quickly realized the error of her ways – lesson learned: always get the consommé with Birria tacos! However, the Shrimp Taco? Let's just say it busted with flavor! Sarah was raving about it – a true flavor explosion.
Meanwhile, I (the carnivore) tackled the Pork Carnitas and the Asada. And let me tell you, these tacos were bussin' (as my daughter Ashlynn would say – and she knows her tacos!). I can 100% see why this place landed on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. These were, without a doubt, some of the best tacos we've ever had. Both the Carnitas and Asada were seasoned well to where they were full of flavor.
But WAIT! The Drinks Deserve a Shout-Out Too!
I was immediately drawn to the Vinorita. Made with Blanco Tequila, Cabernet Sauvignon, triple sec, passion fruit puree, agave, and lime, this drink had me at "red wine." I opted for no salt rim (personal preference), but even without it, the Vinorita was out of this world. Seriously refreshing and bursting with flavor, it was the perfect complement to my bussin' tacos. The combination of tequila and red wine might sound unusual, but trust me, it works.
Sarah, a sangria connoisseur (and I mean picky), decided to put their sangria to the test. And the verdict? She gave it a thumbs up! High praise indeed. She described it as good and flavorful, highlighting the Cabernet Sauvignon, honey, brandy, and fruit. Of course, there are some secret ingredients in there too, adding a little je ne sais quoi that makes it truly special. For a sangria aficionado like Sarah to give it her stamp of approval, you know it's good.
