Dear readers, 

I am extremely grateful to Sydney for this opportunity to showcase my artworks on nature and humans. Coincidentally, we hadn’t communicated about the theme, yet my works mirror Sydney’s amazing poetry. Who would’ve thought? 

The sounds and colors of nature have always inspired my artworks. I believe flowers are ephemeral, yet beautiful signs of life and growth, allowing us to slow down and appreciate the natural world around us. In this book, I used acrylic, watercolor, Chinese ink and oil painting media, highlighting the different textures in nature. There is a phrase in Chinese painting called “乾濕濃淡” (dry, wet, concentrated, light) which is central to my technique, a balance between the control of water and colors. I believe that captured this book’s emotions. 

As Sydney’s classmate and friend, I have always admired her ability to write poetry while balancing her love for science. In this book you will discover the intricacies of both the written and visual art.
