Curatorial Rationale (Shortened) - Dis-Illusion
The intention of my exhibition is to explore emotional and social expectations that shape identity. Disillusion itself means disappointment, which is inevitably part of transitioning into adulthood, but “dis-illusion” itself also represents unraveling illusions surrounding the identity throughout the process of personal growth.
For this exhibition, I select a collection of works that best embodies my personal experience while connecting with the shared student experience of transition and self-definition. The flow of my exhibition is designed to guide the viewer through the process of navigating oneself, starting from an ambiguous and confused atmosphere moving forward to a more hopeful resolution. The narrative progression from viewer’s confusion to growth and hopefulness reflects my personal inquiry into my own identity and memory. Ultimately, I also want to convey a sense of encouragement, especially regarding my schoolmates who are also facing changes as they move from high school to university.
