How does geothermal work?

Air temperatures in New York can change dramatically from very cold to extremely hot, while the temperature underground stays pretty constant no matter the season. Using this free energy can be a great way to control indoor temperatures in your home without the use of any fuels. Geothermal systems help heat and cool homes as well as providing warm water. Underground temperatures run between 50 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit, which can help cool in the warm months and heat in the cold months. Additional energy is typically needed to make the cold months comfortable indoors. 

Geothermal systems use a series of underground pipes holding water. The unit helps circulate that water into and out of your home. This water circulation system captures earth’s energy and brings it indoors to help maintain comfortable temperatures as well as providing almost 50% or more of hot water for use in washing and bathing. Although these systems do not provide 100% of heating, cooling and hot water they can provide as much as 70% which is an enormous saving!
