A booming trend in Buenos Aires and around the world, high-rise bars, better known as rooftops or sky bars, continue to multiply in the city. With unbeatable locations on terraces or the top floor of buildings, these bars offer unique panoramic views in areas surrounded by good music, drinks and a varied food offer. It is an excellent option to eat and drink outdoors and to enjoy the city from another angle, and a very original and fun alternative to include as a stop during a visit to the city, to organize a cocktail before dinner or other activities such as wine tastings, cooking and art classes, yerba mate tastings, etc. Here is a selection of the ones we like the most.
In the heart of downtown Buenos Aires, Trade Sky Bar is undoubtedly one of the most attractive rooftops in our city. Chosen in 2021 as one of the best in the world by Time Out magazine, and one of the most instagrammed, it is located in the Comega building - the first great rationalist building in Buenos Aires, inaugurated in 1934 and one of the first skyscrapers in Buenos Aires - and offers 3 spaces: the 19th and 20th floors, and the outdoor terrace on the 22nd floor.
All of these areas have magnificent views of the river, Puerto Madero and iconic buildings such as the old Correo Argentino, now the CCK (Kirchner Cultural Center).
The elegant glass restaurant on the 19th floor seats 30 diners and offers a menu of porteño-Japanese fusion cuisine prepared by the famous chef Dante Liporace (chef to the former Argentine President Mauricio Macri). The drinks menu is also varied and offers classic and signature options. On the 20th floor there is another room with capacity for 40 people that can only be reserved for private events. And finally the incredible terrace on the 22nd floor, which can only be accessed by climbing 2 flights of stairs, with a relaxed atmosphere, live music and DJ's, and a more relaxed option to enjoy a cocktail with tapas.
An open-air terrace offering splendid views of Alvear Avenue, the elegant Recoleta neighborhood and its parks from the 11th floor of the most historic and luxurious hotel in Buenos Aires. The Alvear Roof Bar offers a sophisticated and classic atmosphere to relax in comfortable armchairs and to admire unforgettable sunsets. It features a menu of exclusive snacks and drinks prepared with modern touches, accompanied by house music. Access to the roofbar is available to hotel guests and open to the public.
The newest proposal in Buenos Aires. Nestled in the most important historical area of the city and in one of the most emblematic buildings on Avenida de Mayo, Rooftop Plaza de Mayo offers unique views of the famous Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada, Cabildo, the Metropolitan Cathedral and a huge and wonderful variety of domes, bell towers and historical clocks.
Access is via two elevators that ascend from the first floor of Pasaje Roverano to the 8th floor where you enter a hall and from there you continue by stairs to the terrace. The bar is very spacious, with capacity for 50 seated people.
Originally conceived as a cigar club, the proposal expanded and nowadays it is a place where you can eat, taste wines, whisky, and chocolates, as well as enjoy a cigar.
Located on the top floor (15th) of the Comega Building in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires, the access is via two spacious and modern elevators with capacity for 10/12 people each, which give access to a private hall on the 15th floor. With an open view of the Rio de la Plata and Puerto Madero, this bar has two covered terraces for 19 and 30 people respectively, and a third open terrace for 20 people with a spectacular panoramic view, and from which you can see the coast of Uruguay on clear days.
Salón 1923 owes its name to the opening date of the famous Barolo Palace, a landmark of Latin American eclectic architecture, inspired and integrally conceived with direct references to the Divine Comedy, the great work of Dante Alighieri.
The rooftop is located on the 16th floor of the building in the so-called Barolo Paradise. It is accessed by elevator to the 14th floor and then two flights of stairs. Having been declared a National Historic Monument in 1997, the building does not allow inclusive renovations such as ramps or auxiliary elevators.
The bar's interior lounge has a 1920's aesthetic with an antique marble bar and circular tables of the same material. The terrace has wooden tables and chairs with capacity for 25 people and offers the privileged views of the Plaza del Congreso and the beautiful domes of Avenida de Mayo.
Located on the 6th floor of the Tango de Mayo Hotel, Dome Rooftop Bar is one of the best terraces in Buenos Aires, with an incredible and romantic view of the heart of the city, the Barolo Palace and the historic domes of Buenos Aires. Ideal for enjoying the open air in the heart of the city, it offers an extensive cocktail selection and an informal tapas-style menu. The elevator from the hotel lobby ascends directly to the 6th floor where the atmosphere is relaxed and is set with a drinks bar, and a large deck with high and low communal tables and wooden chairs. Sunset is the perfect time to enjoy this exquisite terrace where visitors can be transported to another era and breathe the old Buenos Aires.
From the 32nd floor, unique for its views of the Ecological Reserve, the river and the city, Crystal Bar invites you to enjoy relaxing sunsets and vibrant nights. It is, without a doubt, the highest bar in the city. In an atmosphere of contemporary design, the bar is a mixture of tobacco and gold colors, where the large bar, the undisputed hostess, runs the length of the tables that discreetly coexist with comfortable private lounges. The bartender has created an original cocktail menu that gives free rein to the senses with a precise alchemy of flavors, aromas and colors, complemented by an interesting selection of snacks.
