Prior to joining UNLV, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher (Advisor: Prof. Jaydev P. Desai) in the Medical Robotics and Automation (RoboMed) Laboratory at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA. He earned his Ph.D. degree (Advisors: Prof. Amir Khajepour and Prof. William Melek) in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Waterloo (UW), ON, Canada, in 2019. From 2019 to 2020, he worked as a Research Associate with the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics at UW. From 2011 to 2012, he was a Research Assistant (Advisor: Prof. Yangsheng Xu) in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Before joining UW, he also worked in industrial R&D for several years in Hong Kong, serving as a Senior Robot Control Engineer, Project Manager, and Vice Director. Dr. Qi has 10+ years of hands-on experience (both academia and industry) in the design, modeling, and control of multi-scale robots and complex mechatronic systems. His interdisciplinary works have been published in highly prestigious journals and conferences, such as T-RO, IEEE Trans. Syst. Man Cybern. Syst., Control Eng. Pract., Rob. Auton.
