An evening dedicated to the lived experiences of Roma People, with the purpose of commemorating forced evictions.
The story of our event
Roma Heartbeat started with its first edition on April the 8th of this year, on the occasion of International Roma Day. It was a community event in the form of an nonconventional performance, combining political messages with artistic moments, to highlight the radical expression of Roma culture.
Created by Roma People and dedicated to Roma People, Roma Heartbeat centers our voices, experiences and expressions, organizing a space to reflect on the intersections between queerness, gender, social class and culture, while encouraging solidarity. We want to organize the second edition in December, dedicated to the commemoration of forced evictions.
The beneficiaries of these fundraisers are a group of exceptional young people from the Pata Rât Canton community, talented dancers and the epitome of the beauty of Roma culture. The evening offers speeches, dance, poetry, a documentary screening, a panel talk and other surprises. Whether you are Roma or an ally, this is a space to connect, listen, be inspired and show solidarity.
Who are we?
Roma Heartbeat is a local collective in Cluj-Napoca that aims to refocus Roma people in the cultural and social spaces of the city. Our intention is to support Roma communities through two types of actions:
1. creating spaces to grow our visibility and express in a dignifying way;
2. supporting local initiatives that breed solidarity through financial aid.
Why are we doing this fundraiser?
To cover the preparations for the Roma Heartbeat 2 edition. The costs involved are the artists' transportation, food, physical materials for the decor, gifts for the young ones, facilitation work and the facilities of the space that will host. What is left will complement the donation to the youth from the Canton community, as a part of the donations raised during the event as well.
Why support us with a donation?
This event is a celebration of identity, resistance and solidarity, a reminder that the voices of Roma, in all their diversity, deserve to be honored and supported.
Because art is a powerful tool for change.
Because a united society is stronger, and when minorities grow, we are all better off.
Because together we can create a future where dignity is not a privilege, but a normality.
