This is a video explaining my MTech Dissertation titled “Real Time Monophonic Musical Note Progression Identifier”, using which it is possible to automatically identify Carnatic Melakartha Ragas.
In this video, we will see a demonstration of the project on MATLAB using a simple GUI created for the purpose. For the demo, we have played 3 different ragas with different tonics (Shruti) on 3 different musical instruments: Piano, Guitar and the Veena.
At College Of Engineering, Pune (COEP), we developed an experimental setup based on Schlieren Flow Visualization employing optics and high speed imaging to “see” sound waves.
Here's a gif of the experiment that shows the explosion of a cracker-gun used during Diwali in India. If you observe carefully, when the explosion occurs, first the sound waves are emitted radially away from the gun. Observe that the sound waves have almost left the viewable area by the time the fire and explosion debris show up in the view. That's the speed of sound for you! Marvelous, isn't it!?
