Roger Sanchez Vital

I am a PhD student at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and a member of the Wireless Networks Group within the Network Engineering Department. I received my M.Sc. in Telecommunications Engineering from La Salle - Universitat Ramon Llull, in 2021, and my B.Sc. in Network Engineering from my current institution, in 2020.

My research interests are energy-efficient wireless networks and the IEEE 802.11 standard. Particularly, on the Internet of Things (IoT)-related technologies and the study of the IEEE 802.11 mechanisms.

Projects

WINTERTIME (Wur INTERneT-of-things wIreles MEsh)

The Internet of Things (IoT) allows the integration of all kinds of objects into common telecommunications networks, facilitating interaction between users and “things” in everyday environments. However, common personal communication technologies are unsuitable due to IoT's low consumption needs. Wake-up Radio (WuR) systems address this, combining energy-hungry, high-capacity primary radios with low-power secondary radios.

WiLD: Wireless Leakage Detection System in the vehicle manufacturing lines

Water tests during vehicle assembly check for water tightness and leaks, currently detected manually with moisture sensors, creating a 2-3 minute bottleneck. WiLD proposes passive, low-cost (< €0.15), wireless, battery-free moisture sensors using UHF RFID tags, installed during manufacturing. These sensors automatically detect and locate leaks, and a platform can inform operators of issues, streamlining the process.

Teaching

Network fundamentals and architectures (2022-Now)

Professor of the subject “Network fundamentals and architectures” from the B.Sc. in Applied Data Science from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
