I am a Brazilian living in the Netherlands. I am currently in the final stretch of my two PhDs (double degree): one in Economics of Innovation at Maastricht University (the Netherlands) and another in Science and Technology Policy at the University of Campinas (Brazil).
My current research combines quantitative and qualitative methods to understand the extended effects of international scientific mobility in developing countries. Along with collaborators based at Maastricht University, we investigate how Colombian and Brazilian foreign-educated researchers contribute to the social capital and performance of those researchers who have never moved. In a project with collaborators from the University of Campinas, we map the Brazilian scientific diaspora and investigate their collaborations with researchers based in Brazil.
In my free time, I like traveling and attending (indie-rock) concerts.
Feel free to message me at ito@merit.unu.edu if you want to talk about international scientific mobility, economics of science, or scientific diaspora.
