Town Hall & Town Hall Square

Although our Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) bid to restore the town hall was unsuccessful, we are committed to continuing our improvement work and are exploring a number of different options.

We will be improving Town Hall Square over the next few years, so we can better ‘frame’ our beautiful Grade I listed town hall. This work will involve new paving and landscaping to complement the award winning river reopening scheme. It will also improve the square’s links with the surrounding areas and other cultural and heritage buildings in the town centre.

We’ve already started work to improve the grade II listed memorial gardens in Town Hall Square, with the refurbishment and restoration of the lighting columns.

We are also planning to install new architectural lighting at Touchstones museum and the town hall.
