Rochdale Riverside is really starting to take shape!
Since works started in February there has been a lot of activity on site. This has included site remediation works ensuring there is no contamination in the ground, service diversions such as gas and electric, ground works to ensure the ground is at the correct levels for building on, drainage works and piling works to create new foundations.
More recently the new road ‘New Baillie Street’ has opened and gives access to the retail scheme from John Street.
The steelwork for the cinema block is also nearly complete and you can really start to get a sense of how big the scheme will be.
The scheme will bring new shops and restaurants, including Next, M&S, Boots, JD Sports and River Island, to the town centre, as well as a 6-screen cinema and 350 parking spaces.
The planned cinema and restaurants will be family focussed and help to boost the night time economy and complement a number of new establishments that have already opened up. The scheme will also include welcoming public spaces where people can enjoy to relax and unwind.
Road Closures and Parking Changes
To enable this exciting project to be constructed some of the temporary car parks have been permanently closed. These are:
• Zone A - Milton Street West (the old bus station site)
• Milton Street East (opposite Mecca Bingo)
• Zone C – Baillie Street
We have also implemented some temporary and permanent road closures around the construction site. Please see the maps below which show alternative car park locations and access routes or visit our monthly updates to find out what work is taking place.
