Fire Station Museum

The former fire station on Maclure Road is set to be turned into a new home for the Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum.

The Museum and Rochdale Borough Council have been working on a £1.9m project that will more than triple the size of the museum to enable it to open more frequently and show off more of its fascinating collection.

The works are being made possible thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund which will restore the art deco style building to house improved exhibits and new visitor facilities, alongside dedicated education and learning facilities.

The project will also create activities and volunteering opportunities that will support the museum going forward and showcase the fascinating history of fire fighting in the local area.

The project’s Round 2 application was approved by the Heritage Lottery Fund in June 2018.

It anticipated that works will be begin in 2019 with the museum set to open in early 2020.
