Swiss-basedautomation technology company ABBannounced recently that robotics and automation training are laggingbehind increased global demand, according to two surveys it conductedthis year on supply chain and education.

While80% of education professionals say robotics and automation skill setswill become crucial to employment in the near future, only one infour institutions worldwide are teaching them, the surveys found. This is in stark contrast to results showing that on average 70% ofU.S. and European businesses plan to invest in robotics andautomation over the next three years, driven by supply chain issues.Subsequently, 74% of European and 70% of U.S. businesses are gearingup to reshore or nearshore their manufacturing back to their home oradjacent countries to reduce costs and improve delivery by relying onautomation to accomplish it.

ABBhas added new Robotics and Education program training centers to its40 existing ones, with the latest located in Austria. These centershave educated more than 30,000 students from schools, colleges, anduniversities, as well as apprentices and workers each year, ABB saidin a release, through more than 100 global partnerships.

Pepper and NAO are the perfect assistants for educators. Their pleasant appearance and intuitive interfaces makes for an easily adaptable and enjoyable learning environment. Their companionship in the classroom allows for customizable activities, motivating students and enhancing comprehension, all while saving teachers valuable time..

Pepper and NAO are the ideal emotive assistants to help drive intellectual and physical activities in the classroom. They are able to implement Individualised Educational Programs (IEPs) for students with physical disabilities, individuals on the autism spectrum disorder, and those with emotional and behavioural disorders.

Our robots are at the heart of major advances. They serve not only as a platform for development in robotics and artificial intelligence, but also as a valuable tool for design-oriented research, and drive innovation in diverse fields.

Building on these skills as the class evolves, students then take on more complicated movement plans and projects in groups. One project created a barista arm that picked up and stacked cups. Another simulated a one-armed golf swing to hit virtual golf balls off a tee.

The third new offering that makes up much of the core of the new robotics certificate takes aim at the ethics of the robotics and automation industry. Also taught by Oca, the class is more of a mix of undergraduates and graduate students than the other two.

With the IEEE Montclair Student Branch, co-hosted by CRoSS Lab, IEEE STEM Champion Montclair Site, and Robotics Club, the first of the newly founded Montclair Robotics and AI Seminar Series was conducted. The Montclair Robotics and AI Seminar Series is a new initiative aiming at providing the MSU community with research breakthroughs and state-of-the-art technologies in the fields of robotics, artificial intelligence, computing, automation, engineering, and more from both academia and industries.

Starting with introductory remarks from IEEE Montclair Student Branch Chair Omar Obidat, and Vice-Chair Jesse Parron, both graduate students in computer science, and research assistants for the CRoSS Lab, the seminar began, with them passing the stage to Christelle Keefer and Sivan Levy from ABB Inc.

Studies such as robotic systems, the DH convention, control of robot movement and robot programming can be taught to different levels of students. A variety of application scenarios can be developed through the use of programming software and hardware accessories.

ABB Robotics is expanding its education offering with the launch of the IRB 1090. The 1090 industrial education robot, authenticated by the globally recognised education institute STEM.org, is designed to upskill students and provide them with a competitive advantage in securing employment.

Students using the robot and controller will also learn how robotic automation can be deployed across different sectors and applications. Educational institutions, robot resellers, and system integrators can design and customise a variety of application cells, such as assembly, material handling, arc welding and dispensing. This may include different accessories such as vision cameras, grippers, working pieces, pedestals and moveable carts to meet specific requirements.

ABB works with educational institutions in over 40 countries to help students learn the fundamentals of robot programming, as well as educating over 30,000 students from schools, colleges, and universities worldwide, each year.

Three new robotics courses teach students the fundamentals of robotic coding, provide a challenge to students to build a walking robot and make students think about the ethics of these emerging technologies. 152ee80cbc
