PRIVACY POLICY FOR ROBLOX REGION SELECTOR
Last Updated: October 2026
At Roblox Region Selector ("we", "our", or "the extension"), we believe your privacy is fundamental. This extension is designed from the ground up following the "Privacy by Design" and "Least Privilege" principles.
This Privacy Policy explains what data we interact with, why specific permissions are requested, and provides full transparency regarding our data practices.
================================================================================
1. SUMMARY: ZERO PERSONAL DATA COLLECTION
================================================================================
• We do NOT collect, store, or sell any personal information.
• We do NOT track your browsing history or visited URLs outside of Roblox.
• We do NOT access your Roblox account credentials, passwords, or authentication cookies (.ROBLOSECURITY).
• We do NOT run background analytics or third-party tracking trackers.
• All operations, calculations, and settings happen 100% locally on your computer.
================================================================================
2. WHAT INFORMATION WE PROCESS & HOW IT IS USED
================================================================================
• Public Game Server Data:
When you view servers for a Roblox game, the extension queries public, unauthenticated Roblox server endpoints (games.roblox.com). This provides server job IDs, player capacity, and public avatars. This information contains no personal user identities.
• Local Latency / Ping Estimation:
To estimate your ping to different server regions, the extension measures lightweight network round-trip response times directly from your browser to regional endpoints. No personal data is transmitted.
• Local Device Storage:
Your chosen settings (such as your preferred region, auto-join toggle, and maximum ping slider) are stored locally in your browser's internal storage (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device.
================================================================================
3. PERMISSION TRANSPARENCY: ARE ALL THESE PERMISSIONS REALLY NECESSARY?
================================================================================
YES. Every single permission requested in Roblox Region Selector has been carefully audited and reduced to the absolute minimum viable level required for the extension to function.
We strictly follow the Google Chrome Web Store "Principle of Least Privilege":
1) "storage"
• Why it is needed:
Allows the extension to remember your preferred region, ping thresholds, and custom filter toggles across browser restarts.
• Can it be removed?
Without "storage", your selected region and custom ping thresholds would reset back to defaults every single time you close the popup or restart your browser.
• Safety assessment:
Completely safe and isolated. Data remains exclusively inside your browser's private sandbox and is never uploaded anywhere.
2) "activeTab"
• Why it is needed:
Allows the extension to read the URL of your currently active browser tab ONLY when you voluntarily click on the extension icon. This enables the popup to identify which Roblox game you are currently looking at and instantly show servers for it.
• Can it be removed?
Without "activeTab", the popup would have no way of knowing which Roblox game you want to find servers for, and you would be forced to manually copy and paste the game ID every time.
• Safety assessment:
"activeTab" is Google's recommended gold standard for security. It only grants temporary access upon user click, rather than permanent background access.
3) Host Permission: "*://*.roblox.com/*"
• Why it is needed:
Required to:
a) Inject the "Select Region" button directly onto Roblox experience pages (roblox.com/games/*).
b) Fetch available public server instances from the official Roblox API (games.roblox.com).
• Can it be removed?
Without access to roblox.com, the extension cannot communicate with Roblox server directories or display the region selector UI on the website.
• Safety assessment:
Strictly scoped only to official Roblox domains. We DO NOT request broad permissions like "<all_urls>", ensuring the extension has zero access to your banks, email, social media, or other websites.
================================================================================
4. WHAT WE DELIBERATELY DO NOT REQUEST (AVOIDING UNNECESSARY PERMISSIONS)
================================================================================
To protect your privacy and ensure effortless Chrome Web Store approval, we deliberately EXCLUDED all invasive permissions:
- NO "<all_urls>" or broad host access.
- NO "cookies" permission (your Roblox login tokens remain completely untouched and inaccessible).
- NO "webRequest" or proxy interception.
- NO "management" or invasive system permissions.
- NO background tracking scripts.
================================================================================
5. DATA SHARING & THIRD PARTIES
================================================================================
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share any user data with third-party advertisers, data brokers, or external entities. The extension makes direct requests strictly to official Roblox endpoints to retrieve public server listings.
================================================================================
6. POLICY UPDATES & CONTACT
================================================================================
If this privacy policy is updated, changes will be posted alongside extension updates in the Chrome Web Store.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Policy or your data, you may reach out via the official developer support contact on our Chrome Web Store product page.
