Secretary General's Welcome

Hello,

My name is Kathryn McElfresh, and I am delighted to serve as your Secretary General for the  Roanoke College 2025-2026 Model United Nations Conferences.

Stress is an unavoidable part of conferences, but we aim to work to take most of the stress out of them. A conference with a crisis situation will be held to work on debating and speaking skills. Then, we have a full day conference of a General Assembly committee to put the skills learned in the fall to work. 

The skills you learn at a Model United Nations conference and in preparations for it are skills that you can use in all aspects of academics and beyond. Not only will your confidence in public speaking grow, but you will gain knowledge in how to research and analyze current events. It may seem daunting at first, but participating in a Model United Nations conference has many benefits and we are happy that you have chosen to expand your horizons with us.
