Mentorship is a mutually beneficial professional relationship in which an experienced individual (the mentor) imparts knowledge, expertise and wisdom to a less experienced person (the mentee) while simultaneously honing their mentoring skills.

A mentor is different from a career coach. Career coaching is generally a short-term paid relationship where a coach uses thought-provoking and creative strategies to help the client develop personally or professionally.

Doa Storey, an OPEN Mentorship Institute mentor and American Express OPEN advisor on procurement, noted that mentors can help their mentees identify and avoid business pitfalls and work through the challenges ahead of them.

Ryan Holiday, an author and career expert, told us that finding a mentor starts with working hard and developing a personal reputation of success. By focusing on your role and career, you can set yourself up to connect with more seasoned business professionals, who will see your talent and want to help you grow.

An evaluation of the MENTOR Program was published in Oryx in 2022. The evaluation states that the MENTOR Fellows attribute changes in their capabilities, confidence, and professionalism to the overall MENTOR Program approach. Students will be matched with an alumni or peer mentor based on common interests, background, academics and professional aspirations. To get started, students and mentors register and complete an online survey to assess personality and experience.

The mentor-protg relationship is mutually beneficial since mentors can use their protgs to fulfill HUB subcontracting requirements when bidding on state contracts with expected values of $100,000 or more. It is advantageous to build a partnership prior to a solicitation or contract award to establish confidence in performance.

This award-winning program fosters meaningful connections between students and mentors. Harris mentors call on their experience and expertise to help students connect academic training with practical opportunities and to navigate the transition to professional careers. Mentors are matched one-to-one with a student in their final year at Harris who share a similar interest in policy area, career history, geographic location, personal identity or affinity, or other matching factors.

The commitment is flexible; allowing for mentors and students to meet virtually or in-person depending on your circumstances. The program is designed to work in a way that fits both mentor and mentee needs and schedules.

House Bill 3 (HB 3), passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in June of 2019, amended statute that previously existed on new teacher mentoring and created the Mentor Program Allotment (MPA). The following sections of the Texas Education Code (TEC) and Texas Administrative Code (TAC) specifically relate to new teacher mentoring:

Mentoring experiences are transformative. Mentored students reportedly pursue graduate degrees more often than students without mentoring support and are more likely to be retained in STEM. Meanwhile, research also shows that underrepresented students enrolled in STEM degrees typically receive less mentorship than their well-represented/served peers. For the past 50 years, SACNAS has focused on providing mentorship experiences for historically excluded populations during the National Diversity in STEM Conference. In 2022, SACNAS launched an inaugural year-round mentoring program for students at all academic levels to connect with professionals who have been where they are.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted education across our country. Like the learning disruption for students, beginning teachers have also been impacted by inconsistencies in learning environments and meaningful feedback. Just as students may have a "learning gap," our teacher candidates and early educators have their own "learning gap." Some preservice educators were unable to have adequate clinical residency experiences because of quarantine rules or impacts. New to the profession (probationary) teachers may have been completing their student teaching experience in the spring of 2020 when it was cut short by the initial COVID closings. Then those same preservice teachers were hired for the first time in the 2020-21 school year and did not have quality mentorship, instructional modeling, additional professional learning, or feedback and support on their instruction.

This grant will serve as an opportunity for districts to build, enhance, and strengthen mentoring programs to ensure beginning teachers have all the support necessary to build instructional capacity and effectiveness in the classroom.

MENTOR Greater Milwaukee will increase Mentoring relationships by building the capacity of existing mentoring organizations matching a caring adult with children in need through safe, effective mentoring programs throughout Greater Milwaukee.

A mentee is a VSB and business minor student seeking mentorship from a Villanova alumnus who works in the business world. Students select their alumni mentor (using the mentoring platform Chronus) based on their field of interest, desired work location and development areas. They outline goals and engage with mentors on how to achieve success. Students are eligible to join once they have declared their major in January of their sophomore year.

Rebecca is passionate about helping students. She supports student mentees during their time in the VSB Mentor Program by developing communication and training initiatives to help them get the most out of their mentoring relationships.

The strength of the program lies in the experiences that each mentor brings. They are current students and know intimately the challenges that UVU students face. They are trained to help students improve their ability to learn, they lead by example, they advocate for students, they connect students with the resources on campus, and they are a friend to all students.

A mentor and its protg can joint venture as a small business for any small business contract, provided the protg individually qualifies as small. The joint venture may also pursue any type of set-aside contract for which the protg qualifies, including contracts set aside for 8(a), service-disabled veteran-owned, women-owned, and HUBZone businesses. Visit the Joint Venture program page more information.

A Mentor-Protg Agreement may last up to six years from the date of SBA approval. If the initial mentor-protg agreement is for less than six years, it may be extended by mutual agreement and notification to SBA prior to the expiration date.

You must maintain the mentor-protg relationship for at least one year after SBA approves your agreement. Annual evaluations are required so SBA can assess how the relationship is working and document benefits received by the protg. Failure to complete the annual evaluation or provide the required information may result in a termination of the mentor-protg relationship.

The NAAF Youth Mentor Program connects children living with alopecia areata to dedicated young adult mentors. The goal is to formulate lasting bonds while providing support and guidance on dealing with the day-to-day challenges stemming from alopecia areata.

Youth mentors are people between the ages of 17-30 who live with alopecia areata. They want to share their experience and support others. Many of our mentors have been part of the NAAF community for years. They attend the NAAF Patient Conference, NAAF support groups, or other NAAF community activities. Others are new to NAAF and are now part of an ever-expanding network of young adults who want to give back by sharing what they have learned has helped them to cope. 17dc91bb1f
