Development Economics and Emerging Markets Research Cluster is composed of prolific senior researchers, early career researchers, and Ph.D. students with top-tier publications in A*, A and Q1 journals. Our research cluster also attracts grants from various private and government bodies such as NAFOSTED and VinaCapital. The research cluster focusses on the economic and financial aspects of the development process of economies.
The cluster’s main research areas cover the economic and financial aspects of the development process of economies including but not limited to: financial technology, cryptocurrencies, environmental finance, empirical finance, asset pricing, financial market regulation, banking performance, real estate economics, development economics, econometric theory and applications, financial econometrics, energy economics, economic development, monetary policies, emerging markets strategies, international trade empirical aspects of privatisation and deregulation, behavioural and performance-related aspects of privatising firms, public and private ownership, strategic management, non-market strategies, international business, sovereign credit ratings, corporate governance, leadership, higher education and cultural difference.
Acting Program Manager, Finance
Binh is a financial economist and is particularly interested in the field of Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, Digital Assets, FinTech and Real Estate. He has several publications in the top-field real estate journal and holds a Ph.D. from the International Real Estate Business School - one of Europe's biggest real estate schools. Binh has worked in Germany for over 5 years at the University of Regensburg and at the German Central Bank.
Lecturer in Finance
Huy Pham is currently a lecturer in Finance at RMIT University in Vietnam. He obtained his Ph.D. from University of South Australia and worked at various universities in Australia and Vietnam prior to joining RMIT University. His research interests are in the fields of FinTech, cryptocurrencies, environmental finance, asset pricing and empirical finance. He has published in a range of journals including Accounting and Finance, Economic Modelling, Applied Economics, Research in International Business and Finance, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade among many others.
Acting Head of Department of Economics & Finance
Dr. Thai Nguyen earned his B.A. (Honours) and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Nottingham (UK). His research interests include monetary policies, banking performance, financial technology and cryptocurrencies. He worked for HSBC Bank as a strategist before joining academia.
Associate Professor of Finance
Sung Y. Park is currently an associate professor of Finance at RMIT, Vietnam. His research interests are in the fields of Econometric Theory and Applications, Financial Econometrics, Empirical Finance, Energy Economics and Economic Development. In the field of economic development, he is interested in the relationship between CO2 emission and economic development. Moreover, he is also interested in constructing and analyzing peer effects of the neighboring countries on economic development. He has published in a range of journals including Journal of Econometrics, Econometric Reviews, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Economic Inequality, Economic Associate Professor of Finance Modelling, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, International Journal of Forecasting, China Economic Review, Energy Economics, Journal of Futures Markets, International Review of Finance among many others. He is currently a committee member of Korean government and various institutions, for example, Korea Long-term Electricity Supply and Demand Plan, and he is the Editor of the Journal of Economic Development.
Program Manager, Economics
Dr. Tra Pham is a development economist, who obtained her Ph.D. in Economics from University of Groningen (the Netherlands) in 2006. She is a senior lecturer in Economics at the RMIT Vietnam and currently holds the role of Program Manager of Economics, Department of Economics & Finance, School of Business & Management. Prior to joining RMIT in 2013, she held various academic positions in Vietnam National University and University of Groningen (the Netherlands), and served as a Senior Economist to a USAID-funded project advising the Government of Vietnam on international economic policy issues. Her current research interests include applied economics,economics of innovation, international economics and microeconomics of development. She has published in the Economics of Transition, Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy, Asian-Pacific Economic Literature, Applied Economics Letters and so on; and has successfully secured and completed various external-funded research projects.

He is interested in the economic development in the context of global value chains, which includes international trade, cultural difference in determining real investment and the relationship between local firms in hosting countries and multinational corporations.
Program Manager, Management
Dr. Burkhard Schrage is a Lecturer and Program Manager at the School of Business and Management at RMIT University Vietnam. He is also the Managing Partner of Explora Capital, an investment firm dedicated to accelerating growth in selected early-stage companies across South-East Asia and holds several non-executive board mandates. Prior to this, he was the Chairman of the Executive Board and the Chief Academic Officer of the Institute of American Education. Before moving to Vietnam, Burkhard was an Assistant Professor of Strategy and Organization at the Singapore Management University. There, he taught and conducted research on emerging Program Manager, Management markets strategies, empirical aspects of privatisation and deregulation, and behavioural and performance-related aspects of privatising firms. He has won a number of prestigious awards for both his teaching and research. Burkhard was a Senior Fellow at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and has lectured at the Harvard Business School. He is the author or co-author of numerous publications that have appeared in academic journals including the Journal of International Business Studies or the Review of Development Economics. His research has also been published by Harvard Business School Publishing and by MIT Press. Prior to joining academia, Burkhard has worked in both the equity capital markets and corporate finance divisions at major international investment banks, advising governments and large corporations in France, Brazil, and Australia. Burkhard received the Ph.D. and MALD degrees from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, in cooperation with Harvard University. There, he studied International Finance and Business Law. He also obtained a Certificat d’Etudes Politiques from Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, and a B.A. in Business Administration from the International Business School in Germany.

Greeni Maheshwari (DBA) has been working at RMIT Vietnam in School of Business and Management since February 2008 and is teaching and coordinating Quantitative courses like Business Statistics, Quantitative Analysis, and Basic Econometrics. Greeni has been the recipient of "Vice Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Learning and Teaching: Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, Higher Education" in 2018, “Excellence in Teaching Award” in 2017 at RMIT University and "Award for excellence in Learning and Teaching" in 2016 at RMIT University, Vietnam. She has been awarded two gold medals during her engineering studies. Greeni is also the Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Greeni has the background in leadership research as her DBA dissertation was based on leadership of school leaders and is familiar with designing questionnaire, collecting data, analyzing quantitative data. She is currently working in the project titled “Women Leadership in Higher Education: Barriers and Enablers”. Her research interest lies in leadership, educational and finance related topics.
