Begun in 2013, this award goes to one outstanding elementary school teacher in Amherst or Pelham each year (with the exception of 2020, the first year of the COVID Pandemic), chosen by their peers. The Foundation, in partnership with other community organizations, created an endowment of more than $30,000, so that the award will continue into perpetuity, with the income from the endowment funding a stipend for the recipient of the award.
This award celebrates excellence in teaching and is named after Roger L. Wallace, an outstanding elementary school teacher who retired in June 2012 after teaching for 39 years (38 of them at Fort River School, in Amherst, MA).
