One Act Play Workday was a blast! Thank you to all of our parent volunteers!
What is One Act?
One Act Play is a statewide competition between schools' theatre programs. In high school you compete all the way to the state level, but in Middle School we cap it at district. One Act is a competition that enforces roughly a million and a half rules- the biggest one being that the play must be one act (whoda guessed it!) and it can’t be any longer than 40 minutes. All participants must be passing classes & have all S or E on their report cards to be in the show. Should a student's grade on a report card fall below a 70 they will be recast by an alternate.
What is the rehearsal process like?
We will be rehearsing after school immediately following auditions. Rehearsals will be from 4:10-6:00 PM. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. This production in particular has a lot of heavy content and the rehearsal process will involve vulnerability, text analysis, understanding of stage pictures, and require many specific movements.
What if I have conflicts?
If you are involved in sports as well as OAP you need to speak to both me & your coach to determine how you will divide your time. You MUST attend all “official rehearsals” & competitions. It is possible you won’t be able to participate in OAP if you are unavailable for our mandatory rehearsal dates. If you are auditioning you must submit all conflicts before your auditions. More than 3 unexcused absences will result in recast.
Parents & Guardians
To be involved in OAP is a huge time commitment. Students will be working daily on their characters/technical responsibilities. I need to be able to trust that the students are working diligently without me reminding them to do so. The work ethic & responsibility of each student is imperative to the success of this production.
