spaces & places

Our environment is recognized for its potential to inspire children—a space filled with natural light and beauty. Our community can enjoy spaces free from clutter, where every material is considered for its purpose, and every corner is ever-evolving to encourage children to delve deeper and deeper into their interests.

Our space encourages collaboration, communication and exploration. The space respects children as capable by providing them with authentic materials & tools.

Nature is something within which we flourish. Having the natural world as a part of our lives is critical, especially when we live and work in built environments. In a traditional school settings, outdoor time is used as a "reward" and even this amount of time is decreasing. We do not treat exposure to nature as sugar coated medicine, but instead encourage students to explore the forest, observe the many roaming deer on the property, appreciate the wildflowers, and take a quiet moment to do nothing but listen. Studies have found that individuals who spent time outdoors, consistently experienced higher energy levels and increased feelings of happiness.

Our indoor spaces foster a creative work environment, as well. The house has plenty of communal spaces for people to sit together and collaborate as well as rooms for independent study. All materials for creating, building, and researching purposes are readily available on open shelves. We are surrounded by supplies, aids, and work stations that offer endless opportunities. Our environment of collaboration leads to increased performance and more innovative thinking..
