Frederick Backus
Frederick Fanning Backus
A Yale-trained doctor (class of 1814), Backus settled in the area, when it was known as Rochesterville rather than Rochester and served as the town’s second medical doctor. Primary source material, dating from around 1809 to after Backus’s death, are held in the museum’s collection as well as Winterthur and Syracuse University, giving us some historical documentation from which to build out scenarios.
