WAY TO VICTORY
Every year on May 9, Belarus celebrates Victory Day to commemorate the victory in World War II. In Borisov , the day was marked with the march through the city center, placing of flowers and traditional fireworks. People carried portraits of heroes, their family members who fought and liberated Belarus. This tradition of memory is the keynote theme of all major events. During the Belarus Remembers campaign the students of our gymnasia had lessons of memory, recited war poems and sang war songs. Veterans told them about a long way to victory, brave fighters and Borisov ghetto.

The regiment operated as part of the 303rd Aviation Division of the First Air Army on the Soviet-German front in World War II from 1943 to1945.

The personnel of a squadron arrived in the USSR on Nov. 28, 1942. In March 1943 the squadron first saw combat, and onJuly 5, 1943, it was expanded into a regiment consisting of French pilots and Soviet technical personnel; the planes were Soviet-made. The regiment was given the honorary name “Neman” for distinction in the fighting to liberate Lithuania and incrossing the Neman (Nemunas) River. From 1943 to 1945, French pilots flew more than 5,000 combat sorties, engaged in869 aerial battles, and shot down 273 German aircraft and damaged 80 more.

The students of our gymnasia met a young but very talented Belarusian writer Nadzeya Yasminska. She presented her new book "Why hasn't Masha got a house?". There were a lot of interesting games and prizes.

Honoré de Balzac, original name Honoré Balssa, (born May 20, 1799, Tours, France—died August 18, 1850, Paris), French literary artist who produced a vast number of novels and short stories collectively called La Comédie humaine(The Human Comedy). He helped to establish the traditional form of the novel and is generally considered to be one of the greatest novelists of all time.

Every year on 29 May, the United Nations commemorates the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. On this day, we pay tribute to all the men and women who have served as military, police or civilians in UN Peacekeeping operations. We commend their professionalism, dedication and courage and honour the memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.

This year’s campaign theme for the Day is “Protecting Civilians, Protecting Peace”, chosen to mark the 20th anniversary of the first time that the Security Council explicitly mandated a peacekeeping mission to protect civilians (UNAMSIL in Sierra Leone from 1999 until 2005).
