Safer Internet Day

The Internet has been an amazing invention that has undoubtedly change the world in more ways than we can think of. Not all of those ways, unfortunately, have been positive. We can connect to people faster, find things easier, and transfer information at the speed of light. These very boons of communication can become the bane of safety. So much of our private lives and information get transferred over the internet.

Safer Internet Day (SID) was on Tuesday, 5 February 2019. People in more than 140 countries around the world celebrated it. The campaign's slogan, "Together for a better internet", is a call to action for all stakeholders to join together and play their part in creating a better internet for everyone. Parents, carers, teachers and educators have a key role in this regard, as they are responsible for educating children and young people to the potential and risks of the digital world.

How to celebrate Safer Internet Day

The first thing you can do to Celebrate Safer Internet Day is work towards expanding your own online safety portfolio. Know what to do if you see cases of cyberbullying, and how to connect and communicate with people all over the world in areas of shared interest. Make sure your identity is solidly protected, and that the people who are in your life are protected as well. Even better, take a stop by connectsafely.org and check out the newest apps for protecting yourself and your children, and follow up on the breaking news about internet security.

Our students took part in the lesson "My life is not a show" using "Compass", a textbook on Human rights. Students learnt about forms of cyberbullying and what to do to protect themselves.

Belarusian calendar. Gramnitsy.

Gramnitsy is celebrated on February 15th. Gramnitsy is the winter holiday that has its roots in pagan times. The second of its name - "Strechanne" - means the first in the new year meeting of Winter with summer. On this day people consecrate candles - the main attribute of the holiday, and perhaps one of the most powerful talisman actively used throughout the year. Candles were made in a solemn ceremony on the last Saturday on the eve of the pre-assembled beeswax. After the consecration candles called "gramnіchny" and played a big role in many customs and rituals. Gramnіchnaya candle is carefully stored, and it never did lend. Whatever happened in the family event - happy or sad - gramnіchnaya candle was ignited. Alloys gramnіchnyh candles as amulets worn on the body, and even given as a medicine.

On this day, farmers watched the weather as it predicted the weather for the future spring and summer.

International Mother Language Day

International Mother Language day is celebrated every year on 21 February with the overall objective to promote linguistic diversity and multilingual education. International Mother Language day 2019 theme was: “Indigenous languages matter for development, peace building and reconciliation”.

UNESCO believes in the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity for sustainable societies. It is within its mandate for peace that it works to preserve the differences in cultures and languages that foster tolerance and respect for others.

Linguistic diversity is increasingly threatened as more and more languages disappear. Globally 40 per cent of the population does not have access to an education in a language they speak or understand. Nevertheless, progress is being made in mother tongue-based multilingual education with growing understanding of its importance, particularly in early schooling, and more commitment to its development in public life.

Multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way.

Our students met L. Bogdanovich, the famous Belarusian writer. Children recited her poems in Belarusian and acted them out.

Our students visited national animation studio "Belarusfilm" where the film about Y. Kupala, the famous Belarusian poet, was being made.

Republican project "We speak about Pushkin"

Our students took part in the Republican project "We speak about Pushkin" and got a prize for the video film "The wreath to Pushkin".
