These two units share the same core processing muscle—4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage—but they are built for entirely different driving experiences. The Rimoody is engineered to disappear into the dashboard of a mid-2010s Toyota, preserving the original aesthetic while adding modern connectivity. The EKAT, conversely, is designed to command attention inside the compact cabin of a Mini, offering a slightly more aggressive visual presence with its 9-inch glass interface and robust audio processing. Both devices aim to solve the frustration of outdated car radios from the 2014–2019 era, but they do so by prioritizing different aspects of the user experience. One focuses on integration and preservation of the stock look, while the other leans into the multimedia capabilities and sound customization available to the driver.
• The trade-off is the fixed 10.1-inch screen size which, while large, is strictly calibrated to that specific vehicle's dash cavity. This pick is for the Toyota owner who wants a factory-original look with modern speed.
• The trade-off is that it requires the specific OEM Nav Screen configuration found on 5-door Mini models, limiting its universal applicability. This pick is for the Mini enthusiast who values high-fidelity audio and a sleek, modern glass finish.
• Verdict Summary: Choose Rimoody for a "what you see is what you get" installation in a RAV4, and choose EKAT for a premium audio-visual experience in a Mini Cooper F55/F56/F57.
The Rimoody unit is clearly designed for the driver who cares deeply about the integrity of their vehicle's interior. If you own a Toyota RAV4 from the 2013 to 2019 model years, this device is not just an aftermarket radio; it is a restoration tool. This is a crucial detail for anyone who has struggled with aftermarket stereos that disable steering wheel controls or require months of troubleshooting to install correctly. The Rimoody supports the original car steering wheel button learning function, meaning you can control volume, track skipping, and phone calls directly from the wheel, just as you did before the upgrade.
The hardware itself is built around the specific dimensions of the RAV4 dashboard. With a 10.1-inch IPS touch screen featuring a 1280*720 resolution, the display is sized to fill the space perfectly without looking out of place. The frame dimensions of roughly 50 x 10 x 2 inches suggest a slim profile that sits flush against the dashboard, maintaining the clean lines of the Toyota's interior. This is ideal for owners of classic cars or those who simply prefer a minimalist aesthetic where the technology works in the background rather than shouting for attention.

Under the hood, the Rimoody runs on the latest Android 15 system with a 4-core processor. This is a significant jump in processing power compared to older generations, promising smooth operation and fast response times. You won't experience the lag often associated with budget car stereos when switching between apps or navigating maps. The 4GB of RAM combined with 64GB of ROM provides ample space for navigation apps, music libraries, and media files. The inclusion of wireless CarPlay and Android Auto means you can make calls, send messages, and navigate using voice commands without ever touching your phone. For the daily commuter in a RAV4, this setup offers a balance of convenience and discretion that few other units match.
However, this product is not for everyone. If you drive a vehicle other than the specified Toyota RAV4 models, this unit will not fit. The customization is too deep to be generic. Furthermore, if your priority is a massive, tablet-sized screen that dominates the entire dashboard, the 10.1-inch size might feel standard rather than expansive. But for the specific target audience, the Rimoody delivers exactly what is promised: a reliable, fast, and aesthetically pleasing upgrade that respects the original design of the car.
Designed specifically for the BMW Mini Cooper F55, F56, and F57 (2014-2019) with the OEM Nav Screen, this unit transforms the compact cockpit into a modern media lounge. The standout feature here is the screen technology. While the resolution remains sharp at 1280*720P, the physical display is a 9-inch 2.5D tempered glass mirror capacitive touch screen. This curved glass design not only looks more premium but also offers better durability and a more tactile response than standard flat screens. It fits the sporty, stylish identity of the Mini brand perfectly.
Audio quality is another major selling point for the EKAT. The unit features a 32-band EQ and AI DSP (Digital Signal Processor), which allows for granular control over sound. Unlike basic equalizers that offer simple bass and treble adjustments, the AI DSP can process music using various effects like equalization, compression, reverb, and filtering. This is critical for Mini owners who enjoy high-quality music and want to hear every instrument clearly, even through the car's existing speakers. The ability to support subwoofers and customize the home page app display further cements its role as a performance-oriented device.
Connectivity is equally robust. The EKAT supports wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing you to mirror your phone's interface via USB or WiFi. This means you can access contacts, emails, notifications, and navigation without cables cluttering the console. The built-in GPS module supports both online and offline maps, so you can download routes ahead of time and avoid getting lost even when internet signals are weak. The inclusion of a hotspot function means passengers can stay connected, making it a great choice for families or road trips.
This unit is strictly for Mini Cooper owners with the specific 5-door configuration and OEM Nav Screen. If your Mini lacks the original navigation screen or is a 3-door model, this head unit likely won't integrate correctly. Additionally, the focus on audio processing and the slightly more prominent glass screen makes it a bolder choice than the Rimoody. It is for the driver who wants their car to feel like a high-tech mobile office or concert hall, rather than just a quiet ride.
The reason is simple: integration. When you buy a car stereo, the last thing you want is a unit that fights your vehicle's architecture. The Rimoody's commitment to a "perfect fit" and its support for original steering wheel controls make it a worry-free investment. It brings the power of Android 15 and wireless smartphone integration without compromising the clean, factory look of the dashboard.
For the specific use case of upgrading a classic car, I would recommend the Rimoody because it treats the vehicle as a cohesive whole rather than just a box to put electronics in. The Android 15 system ensures you aren't starting with an obsolete platform, and the 4GB RAM guarantees smooth performance for years to come. While the EKAT is an excellent unit for Mini owners, the Rimoody's balance of new software, seamless hardware integration, and practical features makes it the most logical recommendation for someone wanting a reliable, long-term solution. Check the current price on Amazon to see how it fits your budget, but know that the value lies in the peace of mind of a perfect fit.
Yes, the Rimoody is designed specifically for the Toyota RAV4 2013-2019 with a plug-and-play layout that preserves original functions, whereas the EKAT requires the specific OEM Nav Screen configuration found only on certain 5-door Mini Coopers.
Both the Rimoody and EKAT units support wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing you to connect your iPhone or Android phone wirelessly for navigation, music, and calls without using cables.
