BIO

Riki Kawase was born in 1995 in Gifu, located almost in the center of Japan. He received his B.Eng. (2017.03) and M.Eng. (2018.09) degrees in civil engineering from Kobe University. And he received his Ph.D. (Information Sciences) degree in humanitarian logistics from Tohoku University (2021.09). During his research at Kobe University and Tohoku University, he was working at the Transportation Laboratory, supervised by Prof. Takamasa Iryo. He is now working as an assistant professor at Seo Lab., Institute of Science Tokyo, and as a research scholar at TransportLab, the University of Sydney.

He received the Best Dissertation Prize from the Kometani-Sasaki Fund, Best Paper Award from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers, and Outstanding Paper Award from the Committee of Infrastructure Planning and Management.

His current research interests include disaster operations management, traffic management, and logistics optimization. Especially, he is interested in humanitarian logistics (HL) and the application of control theory to logistics & transportation. 

His mid-term research objective is to develop integrated control strategies for logistics (objects) and traffic (humans). In the long term, he seeks to design information disruption/delay-tolerant transportation networks. Resilient network design against uncontrollable events is an influential research domain for the sustainability of the sophisticated information society.
