The Outboard Engine Distributors Association (OEDA) Job Ready Training Program is a hands-on, industry-led program designed to educate and prepare school-based students with the real-life skills required to work with a range of marine products. Delivered by OEDA's passionate training team at the Yamaha Motor Australia Head Office in Wetherill Park, students gain practical experience building, servicing, maintaining, and preparing outboard engines in a professional workshop environment.
Whether students already have a passion for the marine industry or discover one during the program, this is a genuine pathway into an exciting and in-demand industry.
Work Experience
Every student also receives a 2-day work experience placement at one of OEDA's partner dealerships, coordinated individually with schools, students, and dealers. We are seeking students committed to participating in both the 2 day program and the 2 day work experience opportunity.
Students will have the opportunity to:
🔧 Get hands-on building, servicing, and maintaining real marine products and outboard engines
📋 Use workshop manuals to find technical specifications and follow professional processes
🦺 Select and correctly use industry-standard PPE
🖥️ Use computer-based diagnostic programs to identify and troubleshoot faults
✅ Learn the importance of pre-start checklists and pre-delivery inspections
🌿 Understand environmental regulations relevant to the marine industry
🤝 Connect with industry professionals who share real workplace expectations and experiences

✅ Delivered by qualified, passionate industry trainers

Students will be exposed to career pathways across:
Marine engine servicing and repair
Technical trades and apprenticeships
Workshop operations and management
Parts and service advising
Boat and marine equipment preparation
Environmental and safety compliance roles
All participants must wear appropriate PPE. Students will be guided on correct PPE selection and use as part of the program.
Schools should ensure students wear:
Closed-in shoes
Appropriate clothing for a workshop environment
