HORSE: Staging the Idea
NOVEMBER 1-30, 2024
Curated by Arielle Bielak and Alison Cooper
Arranged in four Movements to mirror 4 experiences shared by HUMANS AND HORSES:
R.E.M SLEEP |
HARMONY |
STAMINA |
FEAR |
Individually, these artworks excavate & bury ideas around horse/human iconography.
They challenge and transcend horse themes. They play with, celebrate, and evolve themes that orbit around horse and human relationships. Together as a body of work from around the country, (centered here in this region, with works from Chicago and New York) they explore our world through the lens of the human/horse relationship.
Horse will pay particular attention to horse narratives in the western
United States. The curators look to engage our artists and audiences
in reflection upon these narratives, and construction of
new ones that define us today.
Themes of the horse and neo/new-west narratives
also weave through
RIFF
in the films themselves--and other
unexpected
ways. (You'll have to come and see for yourself.)
Participating artists: Sean Guerrero, Josué Pellot, Alison Cooper, Val Aprile, and many more. Catalog available at the Ridgway Independent Film Festival.
