Viana de Jadraque: Plunging Anticline

On June 29th, 2019, I led a field excursion for AGGEP ( Asociación de Geólogos y Geofísicos Españoles del Petróleo).

The objective was to demonstrate how to acquire aerial images of a geological outcrop with a drone and to generate the digital 3D model of the outcrop.

The outcrop was located close to the village of Viana de Jadraque, in the province of Guadalajara, Spain.

The geological strata, seen in map view, are bent in a crescent shape, suggesting the presence of a gentle anticline with the hinge plunging towards north-east, as indicated by the geological map and similar to what is shown in the simplified model drawing.

This is the digital 3D model of the outcrop.

The plunging anticline has been highlighted with the orange surface, that was modeled following one of the geological strata that extends along the outcrop.

You can also see a video showing the model in action on YOUTUBE
