ArcGis Cross Section
ArcGis: Toolbox to generate a Cross Section from a Raster Image and display it in ArcScene
This ArcGis toolbox allows to display a cross section in 3D.
The inputs are a cross section image and its baseline (a polyline shapefile).
The cross section is converted into a 3D object that can be displayed in ArcScene, as in the image below.
The images for the map and the section used in this example are taken from the site: "Ambiente Regione Emilia-Romagna"
The Toolbox can be downloaded from HERE.
A sample data set can be downloaded from HERE.
Before running the Toolbox, you have to:
install the "Python Imaging Library" (PIL) from: DOWNLOAD_LINK
toggle-on the extension "3D Analyst"
select a Projected Coordinate System, having the same units of measurement (meters or feet) as the cross section vertical scale
Run the Toolbox and fill the input mask as in the example below:
The number of pixel for the margins can be calculated with the "Crop" tool in the Microsoft Office image viewer.
In case you need to install it, follow these INSTRUCTIONS .
The vertical scale can be set by editing the layer: "Scene Properties" -> "General" TAB -> "Vertical Exaggeration"
A vertical shift can be applied by setting the section: "Layer Properties" -> "Base Heights" TAB -> "Layer offset"
