Swim Team Philosophy
The Rye Golf Club swim team exists to provide an introduction to competitive swimming that will allow each child who has attained a minimal level of stroke proficiency to improve their abilities, and benefit from the social interaction that team sports are well known for providing. It is not designed to be, nor does current staffing and facility limitations allow it to be, a learn to swim program.
- Tobey Saracino
I am thrilled to be coming back to my roots at Rye Golf Club where I was taught to swim by Barbara Leichtweis! Growing up I swam and dove for Rye Golf Club team for 13 years. I swam for 6-years on the Varsity swim team at Rye High School. I also swam for both Ilan Noach (Middies at the time, now Empire) and John Collins (Badger Swim Club) for US Swimming. I swam and played lacrosse at Springfield College graduating as a 6 time All-American swimmer. After College I started my Open Water conquests, becoming the 43rd person in the world to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water swimming (swimming from Catalina Island to San Pedro, CA; swimming around Manhattan Island; and swimming the English Channel). I also competed in a Professional Race Around Manhattan.
I am currently starting my 10th year teaching Physical Education at Edgemont High School in Scarsdale, NY. I have coached the Girl's swim team (SHEDI) for 9-years and the Boy's swim team (AHEDI) for 8-years. I have been honored by my colleagues by being voted Coach of the Year for both Girl's (2017) and Boy's swimming (2018).
I am the very proud Mom of my one-year old son Marc-Brian Saracino who you will see quite a bit of this summer. I'm excited to meet everyone!!
- Stephanie Schilling
Hi I’m Stephanie Schilling and I currently teach science at Irvington High School. I also coached the SHEDI girl’s swim team with Tobey the past 2 years and the Rye boy’s swim team with Brinn this past year.
My family and I were members of Rye Golf Club for over 10 years; my father still belongs to the Golf part. I swam for Cathleen Ferguson from age 6 to 17. I am so excited to be returning to Rye Golf Club to coach the team I was once apart of for so many summers!
- Mikayla Klein
Hi Rye Golf Club members!!! My name is Mikayla Klein and I am a current Senior at Edgemont HIgh School. I'm excited to be joining the team this year and really looking forward to working with the kids. I swim competitively at Empire and spent 6-years on the SHEDI HIgh School swim team. This past year I was named the NY State Scholar Athlete of the Year at the NY State Championships. We also won the 200 Freestyle Relay and came within 3 points of winning the State Championships. I will be attending Washington University in the Fall. I'm looking forward to sharing my tips with the younger generation.
- Brendan Egan
Hello, I’m Brendan Egan. I’m a senior at Rye High School. I was on the football, lacrosse, and of course swim team at Rye. I’m looking forward to a great year!
- Michael Ackert
Hello Members! My name is Michael Ackert and I am looking forward to being your diving coach for the Summer of 2018. I’ve been a part of RGC Swim and Dive since I was nine years old and I feel it’s time to give back to the team, and club, that has brought me to where I am today. I’m excited to work with anyone who is willing to take the jump, and I hope to have success this summer both in, and out of the pool.
