My big-picture editing service suits clients who are still in the process of writing, or who aren't sure about the impact of their current manuscript. Writers contact me with questions about:
Ways to improve their book's structure
Whether their chosen style is easy to read
How well their story comes together at crucial points
The writer's struggle is real; getting through a whole manuscript takes commitment. As a developmental editor, my aim is to keep my client motivated because finishing the manuscript is ALWAYS worth it. Often, small tweaks from my outsider's perspective can make a huge difference to the story's flow and how the author feels about the world they've created.

"Heather was amazing to work with. She elevated the writing while preserving my original voice, and her attention to detail is exceptional. She’s professional, quick to respond, and incredibly thoughtful in her edits. I’m very happy with the results and would definitely hire her again."
My services include two comprehensive editing options: line editing and copy editing. While clients often blend the two terms, there are subtle differences. For example:
Line editing is usually about sentence-level flow, style, and readability. We might revise whole sentences or sections to improve the impact or delivery of the writing.
Copy editing usually comes after line editing and focuses on technicalities (grammar, spelling, and punctuation) and consistency to ensure an error-free manuscript.
Both types of editing services are essential during this process, taking your work from raw manuscript to polished, publishable masterpiece!

"Working with Heather has been one of the most valuable parts of bringing this book to life. Her ability to stay sensitive to the heart of my message, especially with something so personal and faith-based, meant the world to me.
She balanced clarity with compassion, and every suggestion felt like it honored both my voice and the reader’s experience. I never once felt like I was being pushed to change for the sake of polish; instead, I felt invited to grow and deepen what I had already built."
How confident should an author be to send their words out into the world? Leveraging the services of a professional proofreader like myself can bring that confidence as close to 100% as it is going to get.
Catching surface-level errors and ironing out all the manuscript's inconsistencies is the aim, and readers will notice when you skip this step. If you want to publish something that people will actually read, a proper proofread is not optional.
