How to automatically cut geometry for families when placed in projects?

Question: Hi Tien, is there any way to make the floor waste cut the floor automatically? I have created a void in the floor waste family and selected Cut with Voids when Loaded but I still have to cut it manually. Do you have any recommendations?

Answer: Sorry to say that you have to create a New Family which can be based on the host. Based on the requirement to choose: wall based, roof based, floor based, face based,...

Notice: If you select wall based, roof based, or floor based, you have to place the family on Wall, Roof, or Floor

In this example, Floor waste is a plumbing fixture category. But plumbing fixtures don't have floor based or face based options, so I will choose Generic Model face based, just in case the host is not a Floor.

Step 1: Recreate a Floor waste family, then create a Void same as the previous one and Cut the face support

Step 2: Change the category to Plumbing Fixture to correct the Category

Step 3: Load into project and see the result in the image below

Conclusion: When you use:

• Non-based family → check Cut with Voids When Loaded → Cut geometry manually by voids in the family.

• Based family → check Cut with Voids When Loaded → Cut geometry automatically by voids in the family.
